The modern entrepreneur is always on the go. And if you’re like most people, you probably dread the idea of having to miss your regular workout routine while traveling. But don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to stay in shape while on the road! In this blog post, I will discuss some essential tips for staying fit while traveling.
So whether you’re on a business trip or taking a vacation, follow these tips and you’ll be able to stick with your fitness routine no matter where you are!
1. Make time for a workout in the morning
If you’re traveling for business, chances are you’ll be busy with meetings and other obligations during the day. So take advantage of the early hours and squeeze in a quick workout before heading out for the day. A simple routine of exercises like jumping jacks, push-ups, and sit-ups is all you need to get your heart pumping and it will also leave you feeling energised for the day.
2. Use your hotel room as a gym
If you don’t have time for a morning workout, or if you’re just not feeling it, then use your hotel room as your own personal gym! Most hotel rooms have plenty of space to move around, so take advantage of that and do some bodyweight exercises like squats, lunges, and crunches. There are plenty of workout videos you can pick from on YouTube to help you work out even in a small space.
3. Take a walk or jog around your destination city
One of the best ways to explore a new city is on foot. So instead of taking a taxi or bus everywhere, try walking or jogging to your destination. Not only will you save some money, but you’ll also get to see more of the city and get some much-needed exercise in at the same time. Personally I love to head for the river or canal for an early morning jog! Just make sure you research whether the area you want to explore is safe, particularly if you’re a solo woman traveller.
4. Find a local gym or studio
If you’re a digital nomad staying in one place for a while, or if you just prefer working out in a group setting, then find a local gym or studio to get your sweat on. This is a great way to meet new people and explore the fitness scene in a new city. You can usually find day passes for gyms which is not too expensive, and you may just unearth the newest fitness trend which hasn’t made it’s way to your city yet!
5. Don’t forget to stretch
Stretching is one of the most important things you can do for your body. As well as elongating your muscles and increasing flexibility, it has so many other benefits such as improving blood flow, relaxing tired limbs and even helps you sleep better. This is even more important when you’re travelling or working abroad because you will be out of your usual routine and probably doing more walking than usual. So if you do nothing else, make time for 5 minutes stretching before bed and first thing in the morning!
6. Pack your own workout gear
Packing your own workout gear ensures that you have no excuses not to exercise while you’re away. And it doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just a pair of sneakers and some comfortable clothes that you can move around in. Your leggings and T shirt can double up as pyjamas if you’re packing light! But there’s nothing worse than not packing your workout gear because you thought you wouldn’t have time to exercise, then finding yourself at a loose end and craving a jog.
7. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
Water is essential for your body to function properly, and it’s especially important if you’re working out while traveling or even just on the move a lot during the day. Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration, and carry a water bottle with you when exploring a new city. It’s also a good idea to pack some healthy snacks and drinks with you so that you don’t get tempted to buy unhealthy junk food when you’re feeling peckish.
Staying in shape while traveling doesn’t have to be difficult, just follow these simple tips and you’ll be on your way to a healthier and happier vacation or business trip! And if all else fails, remember that it’s okay to indulge yourself every once in a while – you are on vacation after all!
